Unlike our unpredictable British climate the Balearic islands enjoy dry, hot and sunny summers with highs around 29°C, lows around 19°C and up to 11 hours of sunshine a day. Bliss!

Avoiding the large commercialised resorts of Palma and Magaluf, we’ve chosen the east coast of Majorca for its family appeal, charming villages and fantastic beaches…

Where We're Staying

Porto Colom, a peaceful family-friendly resort, is among east-coast Majorca’s more charming destinations. Located 20 kilometres south of Porto Cristo and on the same stretch as Cala DoOr it grew up around an existing fishing village and is more atmospheric than some of the entirely manufactured developments up and down the coast. Porto Colom still remains a small traditional fishing village, that has so far resisted full scale tourist commercialisation. It has a very good beach a short walk away, as well as an attractive square with a selection of restaurants and bars, with nothing too taxing in the line of entertainment.

The main feature of the town is the large natural harbour, the source of the village’s early wealth. Fishing boats still bob up and down in the harbour, and at the northern end of the quay the colourful fishermen’s cottages provide a charming counterbalance to the hotels. From the harbour looking inland on a clear day, it’s also possible to see the Sanctuary of Sant Salvador in the distance

The Beaches

This area of Majorca has a number of very good beaches, most of which are very accessible from Porto Colom The main beach, Cala Marcal, is only 150 metres from our apartments with the hills of the Serres de Llevant further behind in the distance. During the summer months it’s cleaned every morning and has a lifeguard on duty, and as a result it has been awarded the internationally recognised blue flag. The beach slopes gently into the sea and is still only a few feet deep some 15 yards away from the shore, making it ideal for children.

During the summer months it’s not uncommon to see organised sports competitions like volley ball and beach football being held on the Cala Marcal beach and sea taxis also depart throughout the day to the nearby beaches at Cala d’Or and Cala Figuera .It’s worth buying a mask and snorkel to check out the fish. Some people staying here never make it to the actual port, which is a pity, since the port area has a more genuinely Majorcan feel. There are also two other, quieter, beaches in Porto Colom.

Single With Kids

Sarah and Alex 9 - (Majorca )

" This holiday is certainly included on my list of best things I have ever done! Alex had a fabulous time as did I. He always had someone to play with and we both gained a lot from the holiday. I can’t wait to go somewhere with SWK again. We both have some great memories. It was relaxed, weather great, right amount of trips, plenty to do. Good value for money. "

Guy and family of 3 - (Majorca )

" Lisa had exactly the right temperament and personality to lead the group and her children were also an asset to her….she did a terrific job of responding a wide range of needs within the group. I would recommend her as a leader of other groups.
There was a great group dynamic, it was great to feel that we were all in the same boat and the kids had a really fantastic time.
The highlight: Chatting to adults while watching the kids swimming in the sea at night. "

Alan and Laurel 12, Esme 9 - (Majorca )

" A really great holiday, the kids made loads of friends and spent most of the time in the pool. I sat round the pool reading books and chatting. The staff at the hotel were really helpful, the restaurant provided a free cake for my daughters birthday.
Elaine was really helpful and went well beyond what I would have expected of her as a coordinator.
The highlight? The kids, making friends and swimming in the pool. Me. Having the time to relax and socialise knowing the kids were having a great time. It’s a great holiday for all the family. "

Roy and Mia 9 - (Majorca)

" It was a lovely holiday and great that all the parents and children got on so well. My daughter was sad that we only stayed 7 days!
The highlight? The lovely people that we shared the holiday with and the fun we all had together. "

Tracey and Harry 11, Jacob 10 - (Majorca)

" Fantastic to be introduced to so many lovely people yet still have the freedom to be on our own family holiday and choose what we want to do. Was great to meet similar families to not be the only one-parent family surrounded by conventional families. A great confidence booster. Location was perfect for a family beach and pool holiday. Good selection of group activities which weren’t too expensive. "

Tracy and Maisie 6 - (Majorca )

" Great mix of families and playmates for my daughter, and so nice to be able to chat with parents in a similar position. Lisa our co-ordinator was great. Very calm and chilled, there to great us when we arrived, checked we were ok without being ‘in our face’ all the time and an all round lovely person to spend time with.
The highlight? For my daughter it was seeing dolphins at Marine world, for me it was watching her having such a great time with new friends in the pool
The accomodation was very family friendly and as a female i felt safe at all times, even in the resort late at night. "

Julie and Sam, Hannah - (Majorca)

" I have just returned from my first SWK holiday to Majorca. What a fab time we had. Of course it was nerve racking to start with but everyone was so friendly. A big thank you to Chrissie who made us so welcome. Everyone helped everyone out so it felt like you were on holiday with your family – perfect for people like me who have children of different ages with very different interests and needs.
When I think of the 3 holidays I took the kids on before SWk on my own and how lonely I felt and compare it to Majorca there is no comparison !!! I made some great friends that I have seen since arriving back in England – even though they live “up North” and they have introduced me to other SWK members too! My kids made great friends too, who they cant wait to meet up with at Wickstead. So if you are reading this and you have booked something and are nervous – don’t be! you will have a great time If you are thinking about taking the plunge and booking a SWK holiday go on do it! "

Paul and William 13, Jessica 10 - (Majorca )

" Excellent holiday, made returning to work today really hard – we should’ve done 10 days.
Good mix of mums and dads made a good group, like going on holiday with a large family but without family politics…we all had a great time.
The highlight? Diving off the starfish was good, the beach party and drinking local shots, taking the kids out, girls first then boys, on the pedaloes was great.
Most fun you can have with laughing. "

Natalie and Lola 6, Thea 4 - (Majorca )

" A nice group of people, very helpful and friendly coordinator, and all very well organised.
I think this is a really good holiday idea for single parents and I would definitely book another in the future. Having adult company for me was great, and the children had a wonderful time with other children of their own age.
The highlight? Spending time with my children in the secure environment of a group. Good value for money, comfortable hotel in a good location, and very family friendly. "

Becka and Alexander 8 - (Majorca)

" Best holiday I have had as an adult! Thank you. A Fab location, quiet enough pool and beaches, good facilities. "

Lorraine and Louis 2 - (Majorca)

" Best hols I’ve ever been on, was relaxed from the start, the overall package of the holiday was just fantastic could not wish for a better place to stay and everything was ideal for my son, met lots of wonderful people from SWK from the start of the holiday and went home with a lot of wonderful new friends. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart. "

Tina and 6 children - (Majorca)

" It was great to have adult company, the kids always had someone to talk/hang out with. Plenty of trips offered but no pressure to take part. Entertainment at hotel was good. Loved every minute of holiday Location was excellent, beach couldn’t have been nearer if you tried. Chrissie was absolutely brilliant, made everyone feel so welcome, group events planned but no pressure to join in. Couldn’t have asked to have met a better group of people. Have made so many new friends. Excellent value for money even though i paid for 7 !!!!!. "

Kirsty and Maddie 4 - (Majorca)

" It was fantastic! Lots of friends for Maddie, and I really appreciated the chance to chill out with a lovely bunch of people. Effectively 20 babysitters, the way we all looked out for one another’s kids and felt comfortable doing so. Will definitely be back! Would like to say thanks. Both Maddie and I blossomed on this holiday. It has shown me that I can cope with anything life throws at me because no matter how it feels when I’m at home with all my coupled up friends, I’m not unusual and there are people in the same boat. And what’s more they are fantastic people who I really want to keep in touch with. It may sound a bit sappy but coming away with SWK has totally changed my outlook on life. (Don’t you think that a lot of the time we were having way more fun than the ‘traditional’ families?! ;) Majorca (Porto Colom) Testimonials ) Thanks again x "

Amanda and Isabel 10, Billy 8 - (Majorca )

" A fantastic holiday…everything we could have wished for and so much more!! Was so lovely to see the children enjoying themselves and able to have so much freedom, whilst being able to enjoy the company of adults and have a really good laugh!! It was so good to be part of a group where everyone was in the same boat. "

Claire and Dominic 8, Zac 11 months - (Majorca )

" This holiday was wonderful, it has given me a new lease of life! The thought of travelling with a baby was daunting at first, but now I have done it I feel that I can conquer anything. It was lovely to be in the company of such nice people and it has boosted my confidence levels. I was able to relax and enjoy my holiday fully. The beech party, the day trips out and the evening drinks by the pool really made it for me. My older son made lots of friends and so did I. I will definitely be going away on the next abroad trip, Thanks Chrissie and Richard, Love from Claire and the sprogs xxx "

Marie & Maisie 11, Tegan 8 - (Majorca)

" This was my first holiday ‘alone’ with my girls. SWK meant that we already had friends waiting for us when we reached the hotel. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Amanda was a great co-ordinator and we were made to feel comfortable by the group, immediately. Everyone was able to spend as much time with the group, or not, as they wished. There was plenty of fun and laughter, and I had a relaxing time…….a great way to take a holiday as a single parent due to a ready made support network of other parents in the same position – other people to go to dinner with, and always someone who’ll keep an eye on your kids for 5 minutes if needed. We all had a great time many thanks SWK "

Donna and Ryan, Caitlin - (Majorca )

" Fabulous time – perfect hosts Richard and Chrissie – plenty of daytime opportunities for group outings, no pressure applied – could do own thing if wanted or join in – loved evening get together on beach – fabulous idea great fun – a simple cheap but totally wonderful idea. Last evening get together at restaurant also well planned great idea and the 100% take up of it from group speaks for itself the lovely parents I met, the fantastic children my kids met, sat on the beach drinking sangria watching all the kids having fun in sea at nearly 11pm at night, feeling part of one massive family, feeling safe secure, knowing my kids were always being looked after if my back was turned, listening to my kids say it was the best holiday they had ever had, and finally seeing one of my kids in tears not wanting to come home, what better proof of a good time !!. "

Melanie and Rosie 10 - ( Majorca )

" It was everything I hoped it would be. Great people, great coordinator, relaxed, not over organised. The first of many more holidays I hope! "

Val and Ben 9 - (Majorca)

" It was fantastic and the group was lovely, we all gelled well and the location was superb. Chrissie and Richard put a lot of effort into making us all feel welcome and getting the group together. My son loved it and has been so sulky since he came back I’ve booked another trip to console him! "

Niki and Joe 11 - (Majorca )

" Perfect location and perfect company. Highlights every single day….! Perfect relaxed safe resort with clean and comfortable accommodation. Plenty to do whether you want to book a trip out for the day or stay close to the hotel…beach and shops all less then a couple of minutes walking. "

Simon and Tom 13, Jacob 8, Ella 4 - (Majorca)

" This was one of the best holidays I have ever been on. The management and everything about it was first class. I only wished I had found SWK when you first started. Was going to say going away with SWK has been life changing but do not want you to think going too much over the top. But it has "

Julie and George 13, Evie 9 - (Majorca)

" We never felt alone at any point and felt included at all times. Well organised Friendly people. No pressure to “join in”, but felt really included when we did. Brill holiday co-ordinator, friendly, knowledgeable "

Sarah and Emma 8 - (Majorca )

" We both had a great time, lovely group of people Emma didn’t want to leave thought it was ‘the best’ and made some good friends who she has been emailing which is really nice to see. "

Talya and Sasha 12, Zak 9 - (Majorca)

" Great group of people, good set-up, made it all very easy. I came with SWK because I knew that if the kids were with other kids I’d have an easy time too, even if I just read my book, but the mums were lovely too "

Nikki and girls - (Majorca)

" So great to have people to talk to and the children made friends really easily because we are set up as one big happy family. It works really well. Sun sand and sangria, and good value compared to other single parent holidays "

" Fun and lovely people. The highlight? Evenings on the beach with everyone, chilling! "

Maddy and Dylan 4 - (Majorca)
